The Hope For Haiti Now charity album debuted at No.1 in the US. The mercy album that was made from the telethon of the same name is the first ever digital-only release to achieve the laurel since album records were first bought and sold almost 54 years ago.
Hope For Haiti Now made its debut by selling almost 171,000 copies in two days, according to tracking firm Nielsen SoundScan.
The two-hour telethon, organised by George Clooney, raised a breathtaking $61million for the earthquake victims. Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift and other top-notch performers are contributors on the disc. Offered as a comparison was the data for Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream, which held at number two on the Billboard 200 chart after selling 86,000 copies in a week.
